Civita di Bagnoregio

One of the most breathtaking views of Italy, both looking at the village, and looking away from it. The small town, lonely situated on a hilltop, has a fascinating history. About 2500 years ago the Etruscans built the village high atop the volcanic tough cliff. At the time it was connected to land. But over the centuries, erosion has turned this town into something of an island.  Today, Civita di Bagnoregio sits atop a crest rising high above a vast canyon ruled by wind and erosion. This surreal and enchanting place can be reached only by crossing a pedestrian bridge. Due to its relative isolation, the town remained largely unaltered.
The main entrance is a huge stone gate, passing through it you enter another world, one stuck in the Middle Ages. You can feel history in the smooth cobblestones under your feet.
Its present eleven residents are holding out against a capricious nature, which at all times has posed a constant threat to the existence of the village. This is, in other words, a true modern ghost town. You will of course hurry up and visit this incredible place before it should be too late.

Hot-springs Terme dei Papi

The trip will continue with a fun and relaxing swim in the Papal hotsprings. A 2,000 square-metre monumental pool with thermal water from the Bullicame springs in Viterbo. Stepping into the warm vaporous waters is also good for your health. A great place to relax! A seven-mile wide fracture in the earth’s crust allows hyper-thermal waters (up to 130 degrees F), rich in sulphurous salts and calcium bicarbonate and magnesium, to bubble up and soothe you. These natural sources have been famous since Ancient Rome and for centuries nobles and locals have been enjoying their pools. In ancient times, the spas in Rome were heated only by fire. So when the Romans came to Viterbo in 310 B.C. to conquer the Etruscans, they took notice of the naturally hot springs. The Romans built huge complexes around the springs. Papal Thermal Baths are hot springs that even helped Roman pontiffs kick back after a stressful conclave. The sulfurous water gushing from the ground around Viterbo is said to be therapeutic. It’s particularly good for the skin, the respiratory system and aching bones.
